Application Regulations

Accepted by the Programme Committee of Regent College (15 April 2009)

§ 1

  1. The Principal of the College establishes the number of candidates to be accepted into the first year

§ 2

  1. Candidates for the first year are accepted on the basis of the Application Procedures. A fundamental part of these is an entrance examination in the form of an interview to establish the candidate’s aptitude for studies..

§ 3

  1. A Polish citizen who has completed secondary education abroad may apply to be admitted to the first year on condition that the school-leaving certificate (matura or equivalent) that he/she possesses entitles the candidate to apply for admission to higher education in the country in which he/she completed secondary school. The responsible person in the local education authority where the candidate is resident must attest to the validity of such a school-leaving certificate
  2. Candidates referred to in 3.1 are admitted to the application procedure according to the principles set forth in the following sections.

§ 4

  1. Candidates in possession of a diploma confirmed by the Polish Ministry of Education, or a certificate that they have taken the International Baccalaureate issued by the IB Office in Geneva are admitted to the College without an entrance examination.
  2. Candidates do not have to attend an interview if:
    1. hey have passed FCE, CAE or CPE;
    2. they attain a positive result in the examination concluding zero year at Regent College;
    3. they possess a certificate showing they have passed the entrance examination for English language and literature at any university
  3. Candidates do not have to attend for interview if they have passed their matura in English at advanced level. Other subjects taken at matura play no role in the admissions procedure. If a subject other than English was passed at advanced level, the candidate must attend for interview according to the criteria established for candidates with a pre-2005 matura (the so-called “old matura”).

§ 5

  1. A candidate applying for admission to the first year must submit the following documents:
    1. The original of his/her school-leaving certificate (or an official confirmation/transcription of it). A photocopy of the certificate may be submitted, but the original must be submitted by 15 September 2007. Candidates taking the so-called “new matura” (after 2005) may submit the remaining documents listed below. They must submit their matura certificate by 15 September 2007;
    2. an application to be admitted to the college;
    3. a doctor’s certificate attesting to the candidate’s suitability for a career in teaching;
    4. 3 photographs (3.5 x 4.5cm) signed on the reverse;
    5. the original of an FCE, CAE, CPE certificate, or a copy of this certificate authenticated by the admissions staff of Regent College;
    6. a photocopy of the candidate’s identity card (or equivalent).
  2. Recruitment documents may be submitted from 14 May 2007 through 21 September 2007 in the Dean’s Office of Regent College at 100 Królewiecka Street, Elbląg.

§ 6

  1. The Recruitment Commission is responsible for conducting recruitment procedures. The Programme Committee nominates the Chair of the Recruitment Commission at the behest of the Principal. The Recruitment Commission consists of the Chair and members.

§ 7

  1. The representatives of the Students’ Committee may take part in the recruitment procedures as observers under circumstances established by the principal of regent College.

§ 8

  1. 1. The tasks of the Recruitment Commission are:
    1. accepting submitted documents;,
    2. deciding, on the basis of submitted documents, whether to admit candidates to the recruitment procedures;,
    3. informing candidates of the date of the entrance examination,
    4. conducting entrance examinations;
    5. deciding which candidates to admit to the College.

§ 9

  1. The interview to determine a candidate’s aptitude for studies at Regent College will last approximately 15 minutes.
  2. In case of disagreement among Commission members, the Chair casts the deciding vote.

§ 10

  1. The results of the recruitment procedures are public.
  2. A candidate may appeal to the Chair of the Commission against the result of an interview in the course of three days after the announcement of results.

§ 11

  1. After completion of the recruitment procedure the Recruitment Commission prepares and announces:
    1. a list of candidates accepted to the College;
    2. a list of candidates not accepted to the College as a result of their obtaining too low a number of points.

§ 12

  1. Any appeals must be made to the College Principal within 14 days of receiving notice of non-acceptance to Regent College.

§ 13

  1. A candidate who does not receive a sufficient number of points to be accepted to regent College may be accepted into year zero – the preparatory year of studies for admission to the first year at Regent College.
  2. Classes in year zero last for two semesters and are conducted as part of the extra-mural system at Regent College.
  3. Fees are charged for classes in year zero.
  4. Year zero ends with an examination, and students who achieve a positive result will be admitted into the first year at regent College without having to take an entrance examination.

§ 14

  1. Fees are charged for classes in the first, second and third years of full-time and extra-mural studies. Click on for details of fees in 2009-2010.

§ 15

  1. These regulations came into force on 15 April 2009.
